Exciting 5K Run With 2 Shooting Stops--Beginners Welcome--Awards
T-shirts For All--Free Safety Clinic--All Equipment Provided!

You are invited to experience Summer Biathlon!  Held at one of the west coast’s most beautiful outdoor sites, this event is sure to be the highlight of the 2000 summer biathlon season.

What is Summer Biathlon?  It combines the stamina of running with the steadiness of target shooting.  At the start, participants will traverse the gentle 1.1 mile loop running course over both paved roads and unpaved, wooded trails.  They will then enter the firing range and in the prone position, using easy to shoot .22 caliber rifles, attempt to knock down five targets with five shots.  After shooting, the same running course will be run again.  Upon entering the range a second time, five shots will be taken in the standing position.  The race ends with one more loop around the running course.  The total time from start to finish is then adjusted.  Fifteen seconds are subtracted for each target hit in the prone position, 30 seconds for each hit while standing.  So the fastest runners don’t always win!

Best of all, no experience is needed, all equipment is provided!
A Safety Clinic for all beginners will be held at the firing range at 9:00 AM the morning of the race.

The race is held at the beautiful Sky Tavern Ski Resort on the Mt Rose Highway, 30 minutes south of Reno. To find Sky Tavern, drive south from Reno on Highway 395.  Turn west onto State Highway 431, the Mt Rose Highway, towards Lake Tahoe.  Sky Tavern is 11 miles up the Mt. Rose Highway.
